Give New Life To Used
Moulders!
Older Weinig moulders may have
years of production life left in them, but wear
in the table plates and fences can affect finish
quality and product tolerance.
This is especially true with
machines from the '70s and '80s where hard
chrome tables and fences were an option, and
many machines are used to run the same width and
thickness for years. Once the table plates are
worn, a wider product running on the less worn
area will produce a gap between the wood and the
table plates in the worn area, severely
affecting tolerance and finish quality. The
wider the "tapered" area, the worse the problem
becomes.
In some cases, the components
must be replaced, but generally, rebuild of the
wood contact surfaces is an economical and quick
way to restore the machine to working condition.
The table plates and fences are ground to level
the worn area, and hard-chrome plated back up to
original thickness, and finish ground to achieve
tolerance.
CAUTION: Having precision
work like this done by inexperienced plating
firms may be hazardous to your bank account!
Any Weinig technician can quote you instances
where a local shop has done this work and
removed metal from the wrong surfaces, etched
the cast iron in the wrong place, rendering the
parts useless, or sent table plates and fences
back to the user with varying thicknesses,
making the problem worse than than it was in the
beginning.
For many years, Weinig America
has engaged in a cooperative effort with
Precision Metal Industries to handle these types
of repairs. The experience and communication
between us results in a better, faster and more
cost-effective method of rebuilding an old
machine than piecemeal efforts on your own.
Some parts are better off
being replaced than replated. Certain models
have different requirements than others. Both
Weinig and Precision are aware of these details,
and will work together to ensure that your
machine is rebuilt correctly.
We encourage you to contact
Weinig Service or Precision Metal Industries
directly for information to determine if a
solution like this is right for you.
