It's a well-known fact that the most expensive and time-consuming aspect of knife grinding is the "roughing" (or "hogging") of the profile. Especially in carbide profiles, the time required to remove the excess material can tie up your grinder for hours.

As a benefit to your business, Weinig now offers precision rough-ground corrugated knives at greatly reduced prices. Just put these into a cutterhead, make a quick rough and finish grind on the knives, and you're ready for production.

Weinig's Custom Grinding Service removes 95% of the excess steel or carbide from the profile with a CNC controlled water-jet cutter, avoiding the heat damage associated with grinding away too much steel or carbide too fast. This service is a particularly good value with carbide profiles.

No more tedious cutting and balancing work, and no more burning of the steel from being in too much of a hurry! Less wear and tear on your grinder, since we do over 95% of the steel removal. Fewer grinding supplies (grinding wheels, tracing pins,etc.) needed, since you do only a quick rough and finish grind.
