Valu-Vision is a gang rip saw scanner that was developed to address a specific niche needed in the market. It was designed to fall between the fully automated in-line rip scan systems and the simple width measurement infeed systems used today to rip random width material.

Valu-Vision directly addresses the lack of flexibility and difficulty in operating fully automated scanners while also providing a step up from simple width optimizing infeeds. In doing so, Valu-Vision provides a scalable solution that offers the productivity of automated scanning with the flexibility of simple width optimizing.

  • Boards are scanned. Rip and crosscut solutions are displayed on the board using a laser projector.

  • Overrides can be made directly on the board using a light wand.

  • Increased productivity and accuracy.

  • Supports fixed gang rip saws and moving blade rip saws.

  • Less than half the cost of in-line rip scanning systems with better flexibility.

After reviewing the displayed solution, the operator may elect to over-ride it based on color, grain pattern or any undetected defects. Over-rides are done easily with the use of a light wand directly on the board or a touch screen. This direct interaction of the solution on the board is what makes Valu-Vision truly unique.

By combining simple scanning technology with operator interaction, Valu-Vision can offer a 100% solution to ripsaw defect detection and optimization even when running difficult species such as cherry or walnut.

The operator’s perception combined with the calculating speed of a computer provides the capability to get the most out of any lumber in any application. That is, all boards can be ripped exactly to the customer’s specification without relying on either a scanner or an operator for all decisions, but by combining their attributes to provide better results on each board.

Adding a moving blade rip saw offers complete flexibility by allowing the operator to process many widths and length requirements efficiently. By taking many of the defect based rip decisions away from the operator, more production can be accomplished while still giving complete flexibility.

The combination of moving blade rip saws, an infeed system and Valu-Vision, the customer gets a scalable solution that is half the price of a traditional rip scanning system in a much smaller footprint.

The optimizing solution is displayed on the board, and the user can change the rip widths using a light wand.

The optimization solution is displayed directly on the board for easy identification.

The operator can change the rip widths with a light wand directly on the board.

Overhead cameras detect the position of the light wand and change the optimization solution.
