The old hydraulic systems have been replaced with solid state digital controls. And the features that made us famous have been upgraded with the new technology.

The Rondamat 980 grinds straight knife heads fully automatically. Up to 36 knife heads, whether they are PowerLock, conventional or Hydro heads of any bore size.

It can also face grind any solid mill-to-pattern or carbide faced cutter fully automatically, even if they have alternating beveled faces. PowerLock, conventional or Hydro configurations.

Digital control opens up a whole new range of features.

The grinding traverse speed and wheel advance mechanism is now electronic instead of hydraulic. No more leaks and air bubbles.

One of the best features is that you can now program the amount of knife removed on each pass of the wheel. For a severely nicked knife, you can program the first few rotations to remove a lot of steel, and less wheel advance for the last passes for a cleaner, stronger knife edge.

But we kept the features that made the Rondamat the most accurate fingerjoint head grinder in the world. A fingerjoint head is remarkably like a planing head. If one wing or knife projects further from the head than the others, it does most of the work and dulls sooner, ruining the finish quality.

Only the Rondamat has the micro-step electronic probe that positions the knife in relation to the grinding wheel. This has the effect of "finding" the longest knife and grinding it down to match all the others. Our users report very significant increase in running times when grinding their fingerjoint cutters on the Rondamat 980.
